As you might be able to tell by the name, Gaming By Grace is a Christian-based community of gamers. We come from all different branches of Christianity, whether protestant or Catholic, Baptist or Pentecostal, we have a variety of members within our group. We have vivid on-going discussion about religious topics and do so in a respectful, loving manner. We welcome questions and open dialogue.
But, what we are NOT is a bunch of Bible-thumpers! In fact if you are one, you probably will find it difficult to operate in GBG. That doesn't mean we don't care about what we believe in, just that we believe who we are and what we do says much more than what we say, because grace is all we have. We love to game and have a great time. We can be super competitive and we can role with fun community events.
Our leadership has been known in the larger Halo/COD community for many years.
GBG was started in October of 2008. GBG was formed by Pastor Rich GBG, N0 False G0ds, and TruthPastor GBG and initially focused around the game Halo 3 and an online Bible Study in the pre-game lobby of H3. As we grew we added Risen GBG to the Overseers Group and then CybrFrk and Destruxor to provide a strong balanced group. Over the years changes occured and each leader has had significant life changes including jobs, children, locations, injuries, and one even running for political office. Destruxor and TruthPastor are the current active Overseers.
Today, we are a more compact group from the 2008-2009 days of 150+ members. Our membership has held around 35-40 members and with the lack of specific focus on one game (like H3 back in 2005-2007) today, it seems we will continue to meet the needs of the community where they present themselves.
We welcome anyone and everyone who is a gamer that is mature and respectful. We also invite those that are not, to game with us (not join GBG, but get to know us). This may seem strange to some, but there is an old proverb that says,
"No one cares about what you know, until they know how much you care."
We take that to heart and reach out to those who sometimes just need a friend, someone to listen, someone who cares. The VAST majority of the time people just move on, but sometimes a true diamond in the rough is found and that gamer feels acceptance and appreciation for the first time. Enough to change their ways and become a better gamer.
The initials in our gamertags "GBG" help to identify clan members of Gaming By Grace, however it also reminds us that we are "Saved By Grace". This term comes from the Bible, in the Book of Ephesians, Chapter 2 verses 8 & 9:
"8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast."
Whether you are a Christian or not, you are welcome to visit, game, or even join Gaming By Grace.
Here at GBG the leadership submits itself to the requirments given to Timothy, by Paul related to leaders and from the Apostle Peter.
1 Timothy 3: 1-7; "1 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap." (NIV)
1 Peter 5: 1-4; "1 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2 Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
